What is Green Districts Initiative?

Green Districts Initiative is essentially a people’s movement. It is with the support of volunteers, educational institutions, business houses, and many other inspired individuals that we want to plant saplings to combat desertification and increase the green cover of our country by target and district based missions.

We need to plant millions of trees to accomplish what we started.

We appeal to every one of you to be a part of Project Green districts. You could

  • Grow saplings at your home
  • Volunteer and support sapling production
  • Support us in sapling distribution
  • Plant trees
  • Conduct awareness camps
  • Fund a specific project
  • Become a fundraiser for the project
  • Donate and support us to plant trees

All this work involves an enormous amount of money and people. So we request to all people to feel responsible for conservation of our mother nature with big concern and big hearts.Show your support by volunteering and economic contribution,

Why have we started this initiative?

 Soaring temperatures and  Heat waves across India.

 Desertification ( entire south india)

 Flash Flooding ( Kerala floods, Chennai floods etc.)

 Uneven Rainfall ( extreme or less)

 Severe Droughts

 Deforestation

 Depleting Underground water(no water even below 1000 ft deep)

 Carbon sinks are decreasing( Peatlands,Lakes,Coral reefs, etc)

 Forest Wildfires

 Glaciers and snow cover are shrinking leading to sea level rise.

 Seas are warming, rising, and becoming more acidic killing marine species.

 Many animals and birds are moving to new locations

 Changes in the seasonal timing(rainy season shifted from June to July)

 Greenhouse gas emissions( CO2 ,O3, CH4 ,SO2 ,NO2 Etc.) from human activities will continue to affect Earth’s climate for decades and even centuries.

Humans are adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere at a rate far greater than it is removed by natural processes, creating a long-lived reservoir of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and oceans that is driving the climate to a warmer and warmer state.

What does our INITIATIVE do to fight against Climate Change?

Planting trees is one of the easiest ways to positively affect the environment.

A tree can help produce clean air, reduce carbon, and provide shelter to wildlife. With air pollution on the rise and wildlife on the decline, there’s never been a better time for reforestation.

1. 80 percent of our forests are already gone

2. Half of our oxygen comes from trees

3. Forests contain 80 percent of the world's terrestrial biodiversity

4. 1 tree removes 48 pounds of carbon per year

Everything on this planet is in it together in a battle to survive, so let’s not take it for granted. Let’s plant trees, fight deforestation, and take care of our planet.

OUR FIRST PROJECT

PROJECT GREEN KURNOOL DISTRICT

 Our goal is to bring the country into 33% green cover(present it is 21.54% according to satellite data).

 There are 727 districts in India so if every district achieves 33% green cover, automatically India achieves 33% green cover.

 Even if it is a humungous task we should start somewhere. Governments do their part but it is also our responsibility to mitigate the Climate Catastrophe that we have done through our activities.

 So we want to start from Kurnool district(one of the severe drought regions of the country).

Some videos to justify our concern

GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE

What causes climate change (also known as global warming)? And what are the effects of climate change? Learn the human impact and consequences of climate change for the environment, and our lives.

DEFORESTATION

Forests cover about 30% of the planet, but deforestation is clearing these essential habitats on a massive scale. What is deforestation? Find out the causes, effects, and solutions to deforestation.

CALAMITIES

Research studies say that south india is turning into a desert due to cutting of trees, clearing of forests in eatern and western ghats, overgrazing of domestic animals, uneven monsoon, drying of rivers and lakes, rapid industrial development, overuse of fertilizers and pesticides, real estate industry etc.

CLIMATE CHANGE EFFECT ON ANIMALS

Global warming is leading to changes in vegetation, forcing many animal species to migrate and look for cooler habitats
